Welcome To Fearn Farm
The Scott family have been at Fearn Farm, a low lying farm situated at the base of the Easter-Ross Peninusla, for five generations, with each generation taking care to improve the farm for the next.
Ranging from light soils through to heavy clay, the farm has always been a mixed farming operation which now specialises in high quality high performance livestock alongside cereals and forage crops.
The farm is run by John and Fiona Scott with their four children, James, Izzy, Lexie and Archie and John’s parents James and Janet, under the ‘J Scott and Partners’ banner.
Recent years have seen the farm increase in size with 466ha owned at Fearn Farm itself and a further 560ha rented or contract farmed locally.
John and Fiona also run Scott Farming Company Ltd which has a herd of Luing cows based in Sutherland.
Cropping consists of malting spring barley, oats, swedes, forage rape, kale and stubble turnips for on-farm consumption.
Who We Are
We are a multi generational hands on farming family who look after multiple farms and estates in Easter-Ross and Sutherland.
We specalise in high quality breeding livestock and crops whilst ensuring the environmnet we live in is looked after for generations to come, leaving the land we farm in a better condition than we inherited it.
We have a broad skill set which allows us to provide practical solutions for landowners and we enjoy working with them to find a farming system that works for them and us.
Opportunities are important for us, we activley seek them whilst also looking for youngsters in which we can invest time in, developing them so they can take on more responsibility within our business and in their careers when they move on.
Fearn Farm’s History
Fearn in base camp for our farming operation, its got a great range of traditional and modern steadings which allow us to winter some of our stock which are fed on home grown cereals and forage made here. Its a strong farm which has a variety of soil type from heavy clay suitable for growing great grass and crops through to light sand which is ideal for wintering livestock on.
Its a low lying farm which relys on a netwaork of drains and canals to carry the water away to the nearby cromarty firth.
Only 2 miles from the sea Fearn enjoys a pleasant climate which facilitates a surprisingly long growing season given the latitude of 57 degrees north.
