PEDIGREE LUING

LUING

We keep a herd of 50 Luing cows at our farm in Sutherland where they are ideal for foraging on low quality grass found along the shoreline. They out-winter on in the sand dunes and produce weaned calves which are moved south to Fearn to be grown on for breeding and or finishing.

Most of our original females were purchased from the Isle of Luing and as with our herd at home they have a good health status being Johne level 1 and BVD accredited and vaccinated.

We usually have breeding heifers available for sale and keep the best young bulls for use in our own herds or sell privately.

OUR CURRENT BULLS:

PLENDERLEITH WIZZARD

Wizard was bought as a 4 year old after his second breeding season at Craigdarroch. We were that pleased with how he fleshed up that the ollowing february James headed to castle douglas to see if we could get one of his first crop of sons to put a real stamp across the herd. In this venture we were unsuccesful as the first of his sons in the ring smashed the luing record and made 32,000gns and his two younger brothers followed suit at 19,000gns and 11,000gns respctively. After that we even more excited about the crop of calves due from wizard in the coming march/april. 2 years down the line we are now seeing that crop of calves calve down themselves for the first time and are delighted with the heifers mothering ability and tidy udders. His first crop of bulls have sold well for us and we believe the next crop are even better.

SUTHERLAND ZEUS

Sutherland ZeusZeus is a homebred son of Luing Rustler who left a real stamp on our herd, leaving easy fleshing thick set cows with great udders. Zeus was kept as rustlers time had ended but we didn’t want to lose his genetics as we felt we could still use them more. that coupled with his thick set deep body and excellent locomotion and feet made him the ideal candidate to fill his fathers shoes.
